World War I & the British efforts

In 1914, when Austria and Germany declared war on Serbia, the first great conflict of the century began. France and Britain sided against the Great Central Empires. 

Initially almost all European nation partecipated in the war, hopeful in a conflict characterized by short duration and relatively low expenditure of resources. But it did not happened, in fact the war lasted four year and caused million of dead.

The '17 is the year of change, in fact Russia left battlefields, due to Bolshevik Revolution and the United States joined the Triple Entente, after President Woodrow Wilson's decision: USA couldn't remain neutral.

Austria's and Germay's fate was signed, in fact in 1918 the war ended with their defeated.


Britain was one of the most affected nations in the conflict, due to its leading role in war's operation.

It is estimated that 900000 British troops had died and about two million had been seriously wounded, expecially in the trenches of Northern France.

The conseguences were immediate, indeed World War I was an incredible shock for entire generations, which had been broghut up on patriotic ideal and most of the British poets, which had lived the war's horrors, sided against ideals of nationalism and heroism.
